Removing snow from roofs via shoveling or raking is very important. Snow load on a roof should never exceed what the building is rated for. We have seen terrible devastation to buildings in Oregon especially in 2017! Here is a news article  of “a school roof in Bend that collapsed.” We were doing ice dam removal in Bend Oregon right next to the Bend Senior High School a few days earlier, see video. Because of this, the terrible news really hit home! Luckily no one was hurt or killed under the rubble. If we would have been contracted to remove the snow we could have saved that school gym building from collapsing.

The video below is of a roof snow removal job we did inside Black Butte Ranch in Sisters Oregon. The trusses of many of the homes in that area were cracked upon visual inspection. The massive snow load was so heavy because it rained and froze so many times. The snow literally acted like a sponge! It was very heavy and solid and our shovels would barely cut into the snow! A snow removal job that should have taken 3 guys a few hours became a few days! We called this snow, “cement!”
