We received a call from this homeowner in Bloomington MN for ice dam removal services because she noticed water coming through the ceiling in her kitchen inside of a cabinet near an exhaust pipe that exited the roof. After we met with her and got permission to take a video, we set up our ladder, grabbed our plastic shovels and went to work removing all the snow from the roof and exposing the ice dams. This roof was completely covered with about 2.5 feet of heavy wet snow and nothing at all was visible on the roof through the snow! All the vents and pipes were smothered and could not breathe. Removing the snow from the entire roof was exhausting (even for two strong men who do this every day)! This roof had a fairly shallow pitch making it an easy target for leaks from water sitting behind the ice dams. Virtually every home on that street in Bloomington MN had ice dams glistening on the roof edges! Continue reading →

We were called to the following home in North Oak MN for ice dam removal services and while steaming the ice dams on site we filmed the following video with the owners permission. This ice dam removal job was extremely large, important and very urgent. This house was for sale on the real estate market and a purchase agreement (with contingencies) had come in, but because of the large amount of ice dams on the roof the closing process was on hold until the roof could be inspected. Both the owner and the interested party knew enough about ice dam removal to only consider a company who used true low pressure steamers to avoid any further roof damage and that’s where we came in. Below each skylight there was large amounts of ice. In the video below we have exposed the skylights and are steaming the ice from the roof. The roof was very steep so the steaming was done from the roof and also from a ladder. Ice dams under skylights is a very common problem because the snow sits on the warm glass and melts down below and freezes. It is very difficult to prevent this from happening but there are a few ways that have proven to be very successful. If you would like to learn more please call us at 612-919-4185. The video below was taken on the roof and explains the steaming process and also explains how to identify a pressure washer from a steamer. Ice Dam Removal/Steaming Robbinsdale MN
The snow on this roof was very deep and heavy. Under the snow we discovered that the ice went back about halfway up the roof on all sides. Once we started steaming off the ice dams we discovered that the gutters all the way around the roof were filled with leaves. Also in the valley were the leak was, we found a huge pile of leaves. This was a contributing factor to the ice dam formation. The main reasons this home had ice dams were the large amounts of snow covering the vents at the top of the roof and the insulation was under code. Continue reading →

ICE DAM REMOVAL/STEAMING STILLWATER MN
The first step in proper ice dam removal is completely removing all the snow from the roof. As you can see from the picture this is a standard practice for us. A lot of companies will come and only remove the snow and ice along the bottom edges of the roof, leaving all the snow above to melt down and create another ice dam. This should never be done.
